International Day of Solidarity with Palestinian People is annually observed on 29th November. In 1977, the United Nations General Assembly called for this day to be observed. This date was chosen due to its meaning and significance to the Palestinian people.
History Of International Day of Solidarity with Palestinian People
This day marks the anniversary of Resolution 181, which was the division of Palestine into two parts: the Arab and the Jewish. On 29th November 1947, the UN General Assembly adopted the resolution on the partition of Palestine. The resolution recommended that two independent states and a Special International Regime for the city of Jerusalem be created. This was the UN’s first attempt to resolve the Palestinian issue.
Significance Of International Day of Solidarity with Palestinian People
Every year on this day there are many events held at the United Nations headquarters in New York as well as at the United Nations offices at Geneva, Vienna, and Nairobi. In 2015, the Palestinian flag was raised at he UN headquarters and other UN offices. The Palestinian Issue remains ‘the most national issue with a globl dimension’ even after 70 years have passed since the Palestinian-Israeli conflict.
