Mongolia celebrates Independence Day every year on 29th December. This day mars the independence declaration of Mongolia from the Manchu Qing Empire. It is a very important day in the history of Mongolia. In 1911, they declared independence from China. This day is declared as a public day. This day is also known as the National Revolution of Freedom and Independence Day. 

History and Background

Outer Mongolia had been a territory of the Chinese Qing Dynasty from the end of 17th Century. At the start of the 20th century, the Qing Dynasty implemented cultural assimilation policies to intensify the Chinese identity of the Outer Mongolian Territory. In 1911, the Xinhai Revolution overthrew the Qing Dynasty and established the Republic of China. With the ongoing turmoil in China, the Mongols swooped this opportunity and freed themselves. On 29th December 1911, Mongolia finally declared its independence from China.

After various researches by domestic and foreign scientists about the National Revolution of 1911, December 29th was decided as the Independence Day of Mongolia since 2007. Since then, many festivities are held on this day. Every year new events are organized in the capital, Ulaanbaatar, and various other places in the country.
