Bollywood’s next big thing could be Veer Savarkar biopic; Wonder what’s in store!
Randeep Hooda roped in for Mahesh Manjrekar’s Veer Savarkar biopic
It looks like saffron patriotism and related stuff are what Bollywood would to explore more these days. Vivek Agnihotri’s The Kashmir Files and the success it has reaped at the box office seem to have spurred more on that genre, the Indian movie buff in for some history lessons.
And who else would be best bet to be a topic for a movie than Veer Savarkar, when such films are mulled over. Though many may not agree, there are a group of people who consider Vinayak Damodar Savarkar as a freedom fighter who had relentlessly fought against the British to secure Indian independence. Now, that remains a matter of debate, with many stories doing the rounds across the Indian political spectrum.
However, for the makers of a new movie titled Swantantra Veer Savarkar, he is a freedom fighter, politician, activist, and writer. When prominent filmmaker-actor Mahesh Manjrekar decides to get the biopic rolling, all questions are on who would play Savarkar in the biopic.
Veer Savarkar biopic to be helmed by Mahesh Manjrekar
It is Randeep Hooda who has been roped in for the role. Hooda, seemingly excited about the new role has hopped on to Twitter to let the world know of his latest venture. Hooda shared a monochrome picture of himself and another with Mahesh and the film’s producers as the first announcement for Swatantra Veer Savarkar.
He also went on to scribble on his Twitter and Instagram spaces that ‘some stories are told and some are lived. Grateful, excited and honoured to be part of Swatantra Veer Savarkar’s biopic. The film is being produced by Anand Pandit and Sandeep Singh and co-produced by Roopa Pandit and Sam Khan.
New role for Randeep Hooda
For Randeep Hooda, the film would be a change in terms of the characters he has played. Last seen in Salman Khan’s Radhe, he was also cast in the Chris Hemsworth-starrer Hollywood flick Extraction. On Swatantra Veer Savarkar, Hooda has been quoted by reports saying that there are many heroes who have played their part in getting India its independence. However, not everyone has got their due. Vinayak Damodar Savarkar is the most misunderstood, debated and influential among these unsung heroes, he said.
Whether a majority of the Indians would agree to that is a question that would beg for answers. Anyway, the film to be made on the pioneer of the Hindu nationalist political ideology will be awaited. It would be in Hooda and Manjrekar’s hands to salvage a biopic that would bring about a mixed reaction. All we would need to hope is that they wouldn’t make it a propaganda exercise, after all. A true story would be anticipated.
